page 3   LOMOND COLONY SCHOOL HOME PAGE
Lomond Colony is located 10 miles east of Lomond which is east of Vulcan and north of Lethbridge.  The colony is 4 miles south of Badger Lake, site of a fishing derby.  The colony produces cattle, dairy products, pork, chickens and eggs, sheep, various crops on dry and irrigated land, garden vegetables and Badger Lake gloves.
The 2-room school is located in the middle of the colony in the basement under the church.  In the 1999-2000 school year, there are 18 students; 9 elementary and 9 junior high (6 girls and 12 boys), 1 teacher and 2 part time assistants. There will be 4 kindergarten students starting in March who will come for part of every day until the end of the year.

We enjoy belonging to Horizon School Division, centered in Taber.  The school was part of the County of Vulcan until amalgamation.  The best thing that's happened in our division is that we now have a full time principal for our colony schools.
I, Wendy Egeland, have taught here for 12 years. I enjoy a supportive, collegial relationship with the German teacher and colony parents.  My colony 'family of students' now numbers 37 with
8 pre-schoolers.

Highlights of 1999-2000 school year:
    Christmas Concert
    holiday parties (Hallowe'en, Valentines, Easter)
    end of year excursion
    students entering contests and winning
voting in nation-wide Rights of Children
getting a personal answer to students' letters from the Minister of Infrastructure.
more money in our budgets than ever before.

Innovations in 1999-2000 school year:
    revised timetable
social and science in the morning (gets the 'noisy' activities over in the morning)
math in the afternoon (my assistant and I love it)
2 assistants (even though they are both just part time)
new novel studies for junior high
    Brain Gym activities every morning
Looking for suggestions concerning:
math series (currently using Houghten-Mifflin and Western Canada Protocol for
elementary and distance ed. courses and old modified math for junior high)
